Originally from North Dakota, Valerie Nies moved to Austin in 2005 to eat queso, go to happy hours, and meet a guy in a band. Fast forward a few years and today she finds the queso most interesting.
Valerie has been performing and writing comedy in Austin since 2008.
She's performed standup at the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival and the Big-Little Comedy Festival.
Videos of her sketches have been featured on Bitch, Jezebel, Salon, Huffington Post, and Grub Street. Her humor writing has appeared on McSweeney's and Reductress.
She has won the Acclaim Television Script contest, and was a finalist in the Creative Worlds Awards, New York Screenplay Contest, Hollywood Screenplay Contest, and People's Pilot Contest. Along with her writing partner, she has been a pitch finalist at the ATX Television Festival and the Austin Film Festival, where 2 of their original pilots have been second round script finalists.
When not writing scripts and sketches, she splits her time equally between convincing herself she has an incurable disease and worrying if whether or not the last she thing she said was the worst thing ever.
